GLASS CATHEDRAL

I · THE NAVE

Columns of glass
hold nothing

but the weight of color itself.
Each rib is a rainbow that chose a posture of prayer.

II · DISPERSION

White light enters
as one voice

and leaves as a choir —
seven notes the prism could not keep to itself.

III · THE ROSE

Sacred geometry
is mathematics

that learned to kneel.
Twelve petals, one center, no beginning.

IV · SILENCE

Stay as long
as you like

The light is patient. It has been travelling
for eight minutes just to be here.

V · THE LIGHT ITSELF

Glass that is
only edges

There is no glass in the Glass Cathedral. There is only the place where glass would end — the rim, the silhouette, the grazing angle — and in the dark, that is enough. Every column, rib and arch wears the same small shader: a Fresnel term that brightens a surface as it turns away from you, multiplied by a cosine palette that walks the rim through a full spectrum. The eye, which has seen real glass, quietly completes the rest.

The color band is keyed to world height, so the rainbow climbs the architecture the way evening climbs a real window. And because additive light refuses ordinary fog, every fragment dims itself by hand — exp(−distance · 0.02) — so the far arches sink into the dark instead of stacking into glare.

  • ONEshader dresses every surface in the nave
  • ZEROimage files — every color is computed
  • SEVENlines of GLSL conjure the entire rainbow

VI · THE ORGAN

An instrument with no pipes,
no samples, no organist

The drone that fills this cathedral is written, not recorded. Six oscillators hold an A-major spread — a 55 Hz sine for the stone floor, triangles above it — and two of them sit six tenths of a hertz apart, so the chord beats, slowly, like something breathing in its sleep. A lowpass filter leans on the whole choir, its cutoff swayed by an LFO at 0.07 Hz: one long breath every fourteen seconds.

The acoustics are counterfeit too. The reverb is a convolver fed four seconds of white noise that decays the way sound dies in stone — (1 − t)2.8 — generated in the moment before you press play. No cathedral was recorded. One is simply implied.

VII · THE WINDOWS

Four stations
of the visit

The cathedral photographs itself: each card below was rendered live, from inside the scene, the moment you arrived. Choose a station and the camera will walk there for you. Take your time — it will.
